Life/work/personal circumstances have really opened my eyes and changed my perspective recently. I've been reminded in the past year that small acts of kindness really do go a long way.
We're never too far from someone who is:
long term unwell, lonely, bereaved or isolated for any reason.
Whatever the reasons, Be it disability, Ethnic isolation, Single Parents, Widowed and so on, it's all around us
I've worked with a couple of helplines over the past few years and I commonly notice(d) one thing behind most problems people are facing...
loneliness, feeling isolated
& the more I think of it, more I see it's all around us. Not just in people who live alone or single parents but also within families, those who are sick, grieving, elderly, disabled, or all of those.
Reaching out to someone makes all the difference... even a note put through the door, picking up a newspaper for your elderly neighbour, offering them a lift to shops in bad weather,
Inviting a single parent friend around for coffee,
Calling someone who feels alone,
spending half an hour with an elderly relative
sending a letter to a friend you've not contacted for a while
It makes their day, well and truly
Bottom line is... you have so much to give, even your time and presence is precious to somebody somewhere.
small acts of kindness can be life changing to any of the people above, it really makes a difference
Nexttime you feel bad for not being able to give something physical, forget it.. your presence alone is enough and so is your time. The best thing we can do to help one another is simply be there for one another
