The Mysterious Libyan Desert Glass Empty The Mysterious Libyan Desert Glass

Post by Dragon Mon Jun 11, 2018 8:45 am

Between the borders of Egypt and Libya is the Great Sand Sea, an enormous sandy desert that stretches about 650 km from north to south and 300 km from east to west, covering an area the size of Ireland. Prevailing winds have organized this great sand mass into huge longitudinal crested dunes rising 100 meters high at places and stretching uninterrupted for hundreds of kilometers, separated by flat corridors about a kilometer or two wide. In these long narrow gaps are areas where the underlying bedrock is exposed. In these exposed surfaces a curious natural glass is found.

The so called Libyan Desert Glass is the purest natural silica glass ever found on earth. The glass is generally yellow in color. It can be very clear or it can be a milky, and even contain tiny bubbles, white wisps, and inky black swirls. Over a thousand tons of these glass are strewn across hundreds of kilometers of bleak desert. Most of these are the size of pebbles polished smooth by the abrasive action of the blowing sand. Others are chunks of considerable size and weight. The biggest piece ever found weighed around 26 kg.

Libyan Desert glass was created similarly to the well-known moldavite. However, instead of a meteorite crashing in the Czech Republic, it landed in the sands of the Sahara Desert, hence its yellow colour.

Libyan Desert glass gets the ugly duckling treatment compared to the popular moldavite but both these impactites are energy packed in different ways.

Whereas moldavite works on the heart centre to bring love to your life, Libyan Desert glass stimulates your solar plexus with a focus on empowerment and strength.

Archeologists investigating the myriad treasures of King Tutankhamuns tomb were long mystified by the beautiful, buttercup-yellow carved scarab beetle that highlighted the Boy Kings jeweled pendant.

The researchers knew the scarab was made of glass but no other known ancient Egyptian glass matched its ethereal shade and mineral content.

Finally in 1998, an Italian mineralogist proved that the carved scarab in Tuts breastplate was made of Libyan Desert glass.

Someone once gifted me some moldavite incense. It smells amazing

Moldavite (Czech: Vltavín) is a forest green, olive green or blue greenish vitreous silica projectile rock formed by a meteorite impact in southern Germany (Nördlinger Ries Crater) that occurred about 15 million years ago. It is a type of tektite.
