    Telescope Octopus Empty Telescope Octopus

Post by Dragon Fri Nov 24, 2023 1:16 am

Amphitretus pelagicus, commonly known as the Telescope Octopus, is an octopus species of almost supernatural beauty.

It looks like a creature out of a fairytale and it is beyond doubt one of the strangest and most peculiar sights the sea has to offer.

The Telescope Octopus is a rare pelagic species.

    Little is known about it.

It looks very much like the Glass Octopus, which is its close relative.

It has protruding and tubular eyes which look like telescopes.

Amphitretus pelagicus, as its names suggests, inhabits the open ocean and is found at depths ranging from 150 to 2 km (500 – 6,500 ft) below the sea surface at the meso-bathypelagic zone.

Similar to the Glass Octopus, the Telescope Octopus is transparent.

The only visible parts of its body are its eyes and digestive gland.

The Telescope Octopus has very long eyes located on two movable stalks.

These protruding and tubular eyes which look like telescopes endow the Telescope Octopus with increased peripheral vision.

Amphitretus pelagicus is very unique an Octopus.

Body is gelatinous and translucent, it's like a jellyfish.
