Two elderly men escaped their nursing home to go to a heavy metal music festival.

Staff at the home in northern Germany raised the alarm after the men went missing on Friday night.

After a frantic search, police found the metal-heads 'disoriented and dazed' at 3am in the grounds of Wacken Open Air, the world's biggest heavy metal festival.

The men refused to leave so had to be escorted back to their nursing home in a taxi with a patrol car following, reported Deutsche Welle.

'They obviously liked the metal festival,' said police spokeswoman Merle Neufeld.

The care home quickly organized a return transport after police picked them up.'

Waken Open Air festival attracts more than 75,000 people each year.

This year organisers arranged for a 7km pipeline to deliver thousands of litres of beer to avoid the need for trucks which wreck the ground and cause traffic.

Headline acts included Judas Priest, Danzig and Hatebreed.

this is so cool, though hope the men were ok after a good sleep lol.

Obviously have strong spirits.

I think it would be nice if care homes could find some way for inpatients to still go out and do what they enjoy the most from time to time.

many of them have already lost their independence, its sad tht some of them also lose their hobbies and other things they found enjoyable when they were independent living .

Whilst this made me giggle it's so true what you mention, they do treat them as if they are institutionalized in many places, using the excuse that they are under staffed to accompany them out to do things they love - like going to festivals

I'm quite proud of them. lol

im proud of them too, good on them, im sure it wont be the last time they try something like tht.

I like to think of that young exciteable energy they must have been feeling when they planned what they were going to do and then actually escaping, must have been amazing for them.

but no they still should be allowed some sense of freedom, its not their fault they are old or no longer independent and they shouldn't be punished or locked away because of that.

Having worked in care homes in the past i totally agree, they do not get taken out enough or get to enjoy going to places they like, i can understand why most feel like its a prison -
